About Drumbeat
‘Drumbeat-Heartbeat’ has been under development as an International Festival of Percussion for many years. A draft artistic policy has been prepared. The upsurge of interest for the London Olympics 2012 has led to a new vision for Drumbeat. This blog shares some of the inspiration for a major festival for London 2012.
Recent discussions with the London Borough of Barking and Dagenham(LBBD) and London Borough of Newham (LBN) has led to interest in a proposal to start with a more local and modest festival to be presented as a part of MOLTEN, Barking and Dagenham’s Arts Festival to be held in October 2006. A dedicated festival for Newham is to be developed at a later stage.
Other London boroughs will be invited to join Drumbeat Heartbeat over the next few years, leading to a highly visible and exciting programme for 2012 and beyond.
I am pleased to share the outcomes of an extensive artsitic policy development project with new partners. Original work was carried by Roger Watson and myself, with funding from Southern Arts.
